Ragi ottu shavige- Finger millet noodles


Ingredients:


White rice- 1 cup
Ragi flour- 1 cup
Salt to taste

Method:


1.Soak  rice for about 4-5 hours.


2.Grind the rice & ragi flour into smooth paste by adding required amount of water; add salt.

3.The consistency of the batter should be like dosa batter.

4.Heat the pan; pour the batter and keep on stirring(avoid sticking to bottom) in a low to medium flame until it becomes like dough.

5.Prepare balls out of this dough and cook in the steam for about 15-25 min just like idli.

6.Place these cooked balls in the shavige maker; press & hold the shavige evenly in the plate.
7.Serve hot with any sambar, chutney or with sweet coconut milk.

Note: You can also prepare dishes like shavige oggarane, shavige upma or shavige chitranna.

I prepared Shavige oggarane using Ragi ottu shavige.

Ingredients:

Ragi ottu shavige- 2 handfuls
Red chilly-1
Ground nut- 2 tsp
Urad dal- 1 tsp
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
Ghee or Oil- 12 tsp
Onion(finely chopped)
Ginger paste- small pinch
Green chilly- one piece
Curry leaves- few
Salt to taste
Grated coconut- 2 tblsp
Grated jaggery- 1 tsp
Coriander leaves(finely chopped)- 1 tbl sp

Method:

Heat oil in a pan and fry the ground nut, red chilly, urad dal, mustard seeds.

Now roast the onion; add green chilly, ginger paste, curry leaves.

Now add salt, grated jaggery, grated coconut, coriander leaves and mix well.

Finally add ragi ottu shavige and mix well.
