Ragi or finger millet is mainly rich source of Calcium. This is an alternative recipe for those who don’t like to eat ragi balls. Good source of energy. Best for children.


Ragi- 1cup
Grated coconut- ½ cup
Jaggery- 1 cup
Water- 3 cups
Cardamom- 4-5
Ghee- ¼ cup


1. Soak ragi in water for about 3-4 hours.
2. Grind soaked ragi into a fine paste.
3. Stain this paste  using strainer.
4. Grind the coconut and extract milk from it.
5. Heat 2 tbl sp ghee in a pan and add the stained ragi solution and coconut milk.
6. Keep on stirring to avoid lumps in a low flame; add ghee in between.
7. When it leaves from the pan switch off the flame (it should not be too sticky to the fingers while pressing).
8. Grease 1 tsp ghee over a plate and pour halbai paste & spread it evenly.
9. Let it cool & cut to your favourite shapes.

  • Halbai can be preserved upto 1 day without refrigeration; but it can be stored for 3-4 days.
