Red chilly-25
Coriander seeds-1 cup
Cumin seeds-1/2 cup
Toor dal-1/2 cup
Channa dal-1/4 cup
Urad dal-1/4 cup
Fenugreek seeds-1/4 cup
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Asafoetida- ½ tsp
Curry leaves- one bunch
Oil- 1 tblsp
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp


Fry all the ingredients till the dals become light brown. Finally add curry leaves & turmeric powder and stir well.
Prepare a fine powder out of that.
Store it in an airtight container.

(Note: This measurement can be sufficient for small family upto one week)

Sambar using Homemade Sambar powder:

Chop the desired vegetables(1/4 kg) and cook well by adding required salt, tamarind, jaggary & chilly powder.

Grind the masala paste by adding ½ cup grated coconut, 2.5 tsp  homemade sambar powder & water.

Add this masala paste to the cooked vegetables and cook to boil.

Add tampering(Fry the red chilly, urad dal, mustard seeds, curry leaves in 1 tsp oil).

Now the sambar is ready to serve.
