Halbai

Halbai - ಹಾಲ್ಬಾಯಿ

Ingredients:

White rice- ½ cup
Grated coconut- ½ cup
Jaggery- ½ cup
Cardamom- 4-5
Ghee- 5-6 tblsp

Method:

1. Soak rice in water for about 3-4 hours.

2. Grind soaked rice, coconut & cardamom into a fine paste; the paste should be like dosa batter.

3. Heat the pan and dissolve jaggery in 1&1/2 cup of water; add 2 tblsp ghee.

4. Keep on stirring to avoid lumps in a low flame; add 4 tblsp ghee.
5. When it leaves from the pan switch off the flame (it should not be too sticky to the fingers while pressing).
6. Grease 1 tsp ghee over a plate and pour halbai paste & spread it evenly.
7. Let it cool & cut to your favourite shapes.

Note: 

  • Halbai can be preserved upto 1 day without refrigeration; but it can be stored for 3-4 days.
