Urad dal Chakli

Urad dal Chakli - ಚಕ್ಕುಲಿ 

Chakli is a deep fried popular snack and it is one of the traditional treat for festivals. It is a good snack at tea time.


Rice flour- 1 cups
Urad dal powder- 2 tblsp
(Note: Roast the urad dal for about 2-4 minutes and prepare a fine powder.)
Butter- 2 tblsp
Asafoetida- small pinch
Chilly powder-1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
Sesame seeds- 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil to fry


1. Prepare a thick dough by mixing all the ingredients and adding little amount of boiling water.
2. Now press the dough using chakli maker on a plastic sheet; slightly rotate the maker to make a circle.
3. Heat oil in a pan and fry the chakli until light golden brown.

4. Now yummy, crispy butter chakli is ready to taste.
5. Let it comes to room temperature and then store in an air tight container.
